part/WHOLE 'Hands of Man' Lookbook by Metropolitan Society

The Hands of Man collection is a series of case studies and explorations into the symbolism and implied meaning behind hand gestures and movement within religious contexts as well as with anatomical representation throughout the history of European artwork. The part/WHOLE lens intends to “zoom-in” and abstract a piece of something that is often found within a larger situation or context. The graphics put a framework around a specific moment in time and allow the viewer to “complete” the image.

part/WHOLE 'Abstract Realism' Look Book by Metropolitan Society

“Abstract Realism explores imagery and symbolism that stems from Baroque and Renaissance artwork but can be applied to contemporary contexts and materials. For example, the realistic quality and textures of garments and drapery in old master works juxtaposed with the material qualities of translucent plastic sheeting. A specific example of this is depicted in the "Veil" hoodie shown on the second image. This collection is an attempt at drawing lines that stretch from these old art movements and applying them to a contemporary context.”

From the designers: "Necessity Sense Is the In-house label of NE.SENSE, aiming to impact beyond garments by storytelling an unique perspective on unspoken cultural issues. The founding brothers, born and raised in religious Taiwanese family, bounded in strict but Orderly Japanese education system, and eventually broadened perspectives in the free state of America; resulting in an aesthetic mixed of western modernization and eastern traditions."
